“The Other Path” is a continuation of Akunin-Chkhartishvili’s novel “Aristonimya.” This is the second—and not the last—book in the series “Family Album.”
“In the series ‘Family Album,’ begun three years ago with the novel ‘Aristonimya,’ I first build a certain concept, and then test it with a double check. First, I run it through the experience, character, and inner world of another person—my hero; perhaps I myself would have approached the topic differently. Second, I hand the theory over to be torn apart by life—only a piece of fiction can do that. And I write it without any concessions, without a pre-developed plan—unlike architecturally calculated fiction. I throw my characters into water and watch how they will struggle, whether they’ll float or sink, and if they float, then to which shore they will be carried. At the beginning I never know how everything will end. It’s interesting—and sometimes frightening. I think it can be felt while reading.” Akunin-Chkhartishvili
