Philip K. Dick’s novel “Doctor Adder” describes the division of Los Angeles into different districts, as well as a neutral zone between them, where the surgeon Dr. Adder modifies girls according to the clients’ secret desires. The main character, E. Allen Limmitt, is drawn into a conflict between Dr. Adder and his enemy John Mox, the head of the Videochurch of Moral Forces. For several years, the book was impossible to publish, but it became a classic after the author’s death. It anticipated a wave of cyberpunk and remains relevant and fierce to this day.
