France, 1944. In an old stone cottage on the outskirts of a beautiful village in Dordogne, three sisters dream of the end of the war. Élen, the eldest, works as a nurse at the village hospital and does everything possible to keep their little family safe. Éliza, the rebellious one, runs a café that serves as a “mailbox” for local partisans, and the youngest, Florence—a daydreamer—takes care of the house, cooks, and works in the garden.
One night, Florence discovers a young German deserter in the barn, and the sisters decide to hide him. That very night, the local doctor asks them to give shelter to an Englishman who has been left there to lead the partisan struggle. And the sisters find themselves right in the middle of events. They must make a choice that will sharply change their lives. And on top of everything, family secrets begin to surface—secrets capable of destroying everything that’s dear to them…
“Daughters of War” is the first part of a trilogy about the lives of three sisters in war-torn France.
