Description
Shamil Idiyatullin is a prose writer and journalist, a two-time laureate of the “Big Book” award—master of a wide variety of genres: the realist novel “Brezhnev’s City” and “The Former Lenin,” the mystical thriller “Ubyr,” ethno-fantasy “Last Time,” the novel “The Return of the ‘Pioneer’” and the collection “Everything Like People” (the last two are simply science fiction).

Russia, the province, autumn 2021. Local authorities urgently need to revive the literary magazine “Plamya” (“Flame”). A first-year student Anya is assigned to study the magazine’s archive—and among the heaps of mediocre writing, a young editor finds a manuscript of a gripping thriller written from the perspective of a serial killer. And soon it turns out the murders described in the text weren’t invented: they really happened in the town fifteen years ago, and back then the killer was never caught…

The author of the manuscript learns about the digging in the archive—and now a maniac long gone quiet must choose what he wants more: peace that Anya might disrupt, or literary fame?
