Gigarn is divided by an insurmountable wall of the Midridge. The South recovered after the most terrible catastrophe, and the North long ago forgot about it. In the South, a world of magic and ancient secrets flourishes; there, dark mages are still fought. The North has reached the age of industrialization: trains run along railways, airships cut through the skies, magic is unknown, and religiosity is mocked. Most of the population, both in the North and in the South, is sure that beyond the mountains there is no life.
