In 2031, a turning point in human history took place: that’s when Magic lenses appeared, allowing people to see magic. Suddenly, people realized that the planet they live on is much more complex and multifaceted. That forests are inhabited by elves, mountains by dwarves; and that the sky is filled not only with birds and airplanes, but also with phoenixes and dragons. That magic is just as familiar an element of life as anything else—people simply lost the ability to perceive it.
Magic lenses changed everything. After fifty years, magic became as commonplace as the internet. Schools for mages appeared, and, of course, prisons for those who didn’t follow human and magical laws. Cameras hidden deep underground, collars that limit powers, taunting by guards. Alexander Dumsko—better known as Alex Dum—had to go through this kind of hell.
He ended up there for crimes that even seasoned judges and prosecutors couldn’t make sense of. Lawyers simply refused to take his case. The prospect of rotting behind bars seemed more real than freedom. Yet four years later, Дума was released.
Someone wanted him to take the position of Professor of Black Magic. Now all that remained was to figure out who needed that—and what to expect from this prestigious post for Alex.
