"The Guardian Spirit of the Academy of Curses” has appeared in lectures more than once, materializing and then disappearing at the very hint of the Lord-Director’s arrival—and greenish radiance lights up it for extra attraction in the gaze of Lady Oris. Our beloved teacher was noticeably flustered, but she did nothing to stop the old spirit from openly showing its affection. Perhaps it was because she was flattered by the attention of the academy’s keeper, or maybe the reason was the blossoming gardens that grew for us on the day Lady Oris softly whispered that she badly missed flowers. Flowers appeared instantly. Or rather: first, black shoots shot from the earth toward the sky; they turned green, becoming low little trees— and then the shoots and branches were covered with blossoms. Blue, yellow, red, pink, orange, violet, lilac, and so on. On each tree you could count up to seventy different shades…"
