Space is infinite, and among its expanses there may be millions of planets—some more developed, some less. That’s why meetings between such worlds are always unusual and contradictory. In his fantastic book “Dan. Book One,” Igor Khort modeled a meeting between a human from a highly developed civilization and the natives of a fairly primitive planet. Then his adventures began in a new world he wanted to develop and refine.
Dan Krayev is an orphan. He has turned twenty-one and has just graduated from a space academy. Now he is a future military pilot, as well as a civilian mining engineer. By contract, he must spend a year on-the-job training in his specialty. Dan’s direct job is to mine sternite, which is used as fuel for jump engines. It’s a very important and highly paid job, because without sternite humanity can’t make interstellar flights.
During Dan’s transfer to his training location, an accident occurs aboard his ship. As a result, he ends up in another world. Nearby there are three planets. One of them is suitable for human life. It is inhabited by feral ex-colonists. That’s where Dan lands. Now he not only needs to survive, but also to secure a high position in local society. Helping him will be an i-skin named Yuri, implants, and psychotechnics mastered by Dan. Luck will also be needed, because a former cadet of a space academy needs a chance to return to civilized society.
