Bob Lee Swagger, famed hero of the Vietnam War and one of America’s best shooters, has long been retired. He lives in seclusion and seems to be content with everything. One day a young journalist arrives, planning to write a book about Bob’s father—an Army officer in World War II who later became a policeman and was killed by bandits. The son cannot refuse the journalist’s request for help gathering materials, because it is about his father; and in the course of the search, it turns out that the circumstances of the elder Swagger’s murder were not at all as the investigation presented them. What’s more, Bob begins to be hunted, and twice they try to kill him. And behind all this—both old matters and present events—there is some powerful figure. And Bob Lee Swagger steps onto the path of war.
