Inkheart (German: Tintenherz) is the first book in the “Inkheart” trilogy by the German writer Cornelia Funke.
Mo, the father of twelve-year-old Meggie, has an amazing ability: when he reads aloud, the characters in books come to life—yet instead of going into the pages of the book, someone from the people around them ends up there. One day, in Meggie’s house, there appeared a notorious villain from “Inkheart,” Capricorn, along with several of his servants, as well as a traveling performer who devours fire—Sazheruk. And in their place, in the fairy tale, was Meggie’s mother, Teresa. Capricorn took a liking to our world and decided to destroy all copies of the book from which Mo was reading him—so that no one could send him back. Capricorn’s gang kidnaps the last remaining book, as well as Mo himself. Meggie has no choice but to set out in search of her father…
