The Kozeltsov Brothers

The Kozeltsov Brothers

56 min.
From the cycle “Sevastopol Stories.” The Crimean War, 1855. Defenders of Sevastopol—soldiers and officers. No confusion and fuss—behind the outward simplicity and everydayness lies readiness to fight for the Fatherland, a deep sense of love for the Motherland. The story centers on the fate of the brothers. The elder, Lieutenant Mikhail Kozeltsov, after being wounded returns to his regiment. In Sevastopol he meets his younger brother, warrant officer Vladimir Kozeltsov, who says, “It’s shameful to live in St. Petersburg when here people die for the Fatherland.” And then the battle at the Malakhov Kurgan—both brothers accept death bravely and worthily. The wounded are taken by steamboat. Sevastopol had to be left behind. Hard it is for every Russian to experience the bitterness of defeat…
