“By contract, you have to let me go,” I whisper, huddled in a tight ball. I can’t look at him.
“Is that what you want the truth to be?” His cold voice makes my heart twitch as if it’s on hot coals.
The room—my former prison—freezes in silence. Nothing keeps me and Rein here anymore. And even being side by side with him—nowhere holds us.
“My dates with you are over; the contract is fulfilled.”
And under my heart, now beats yet another. Too small for him to feel—yet so important that I’m ready to run from Rein headlong, just so he doesn’t catch up.
