The third book in the cycle “The Dark Tower” continues the Gunslinger’s journey to the stronghold of darkness in a world that has shifted out of place. Seven years have passed since the end of “The Waste of Three.” Roland, once Odetta Holmes, now Susannah Dean and Eddie continue their long and thorny path to the Tower, learning the realities of the new world and practicing the skills of the Gunslinger. In the very first sketch, they must fight a bear—one of the three Guardians—Eddie will find a key that opens doors between worlds and will extract yet another character—a little boy, Jack, who feels his own splitness because he remembers two versions of reality: the one where he died at the hands of the Man in Black, and the one where Roland managed to save him from Jake Mort’s clutches. And the first thing that will please “The Wastelands” is a new old hero, from whose name the narrative will be carried. From the performer: The story becomes even more tense. First we see an epic battle with an ancient cyborg; then we return to New York with Jake and see his encounter with magic; after that comes full-blown post-apocalypse. Magic and hi-tech blend together, the world grows with details, and the heroes enter new relationships. Many believe this part is the most interesting—I don’t know, we’ll read on and see.
