Dusya Vakhovskaya was born to become the most faithful wife in the world and the most caring mother.

But—alas!—in a country where, according to statistics, there are eight boys for every nine girls, every ninth woman remains alone. Dusya was exactly the one who didn’t get lucky.

Yet Dusya had a gift not given to everyone—the ability to give.

The Selevyrovs’ family, to whom Dusya clung with her childish, naive soul, kept reminding her of her place: “Every cricket knows its own corner.”
