Imagine a dining table—perfectly level—paved with stone. Around it stand towering walls. Beyond the walls lies the Labyrinth. In the Labyrinth live terrifying creatures—the Grievers. And at the center, on that very level table—in the Shelter—five dozen boys have been living for two years. They don’t remember who they are. They don’t know why they ended up in the Shelter. They only know they have to escape.
Unlike Golding’s “Lord of the Flies,” the boys here didn’t turn on one another and kill each other off. They formed a commune where everyone gives according to their abilities, and they try to find a way out of the Labyrinth. Unfortunately, so far to no avail. The Grievers rule the place and feast on the boys to their heart’s content.
And then, in the Shelter, first appears a mysterious boy named Thomas—and soon after him comes an even more mysterious girl of incredible beauty…
