The story in the “Bard” cycle takes place in the world of Barliona invented by the famous science-fiction writer Vasily Mahanenko, but the characters here are completely different. “Bard of the Darkness” is the second book in the cycle.

Kira, the vocalist of a musical group, goes into the virtual world of Barliona in search of inspiration—with her stingy but insightful producer’s permission. Her choice is unusual: for the game she picks a very exotic race of plant-like humanoids—sylvari—and, as a class, the bard, a wandering singer-minstrel. Developing and playing as such a hero is far from easy, and what’s more, the starting location unexpectedly turns out to be isolated from everything else in the world. Still, her determination and ability to get along with people help the heroine achieve considerable success and learn things others don’t even suspect.
