Bryansk region, the 1940s. A young, beautiful girl, Anastasiya Petrovna, travels half the country to find an unusual settlement where other women like herself—"babka" as people call them—have hidden away from the whole world. These are the ones who possess a special mystical gift, because of which other people sometimes fear them.
The residents of the neighboring village are not very pleased with such neighbors and call those who live right by the forest witches. And they are right. However, whenever someone needs help from the babkas, people secretly go to them: to perform a love spell, to heal an illness, or even to keep a husband away from drink.
But a terrible disaster is coming for the country—war. And then those who previously spat in their backs try not only to protect themselves, but also to save the village children.
The witches of the Bryansk region are not afraid. And if they have to die, then let each one take at least one enemy with her...
A deep, heavy story about the fates of those branded by the people as witches, but who, like any Russian woman, can love and stand up for their own—even unto death.
