“The Executioner’s Adjutant” is Alexander Yamanov’s novel, the second book of the eponymous cycle. Genre: time travel to an alternate past (a попадantsy story), alternative history, historical adventures. Nikolai Smirnov has settled into the new world and the body of Count Josef Kozell-Poklevsky. Since he is currently on forced leave, he tries to do what he hadn’t managed to do during service. But even marriage and peace in the family estate won’t let him rest. After all, our hero has foreknowledge—meaning he must do at least something for the country. So he decides to take a small trip to Europe, so that the enemies—both current and future—don’t relax. And that’s only the beginning of his adventures.
