In abandoned places the boundary between worlds grows thin. There are special people—hunters—who, in such locations, can extract various artifacts from other worlds: the "hearts of abandoned places." Arti and Sonya are a team of some of the most successful hunters in history. They receive an initiation into the Crimson Step, granting them access to the deepest secrets of our world. But their lives now become far more dangerous.
