Eternity swallowed the local sun three galactic orbits ago.
In its place is a black hole with an accretion disk; people cast two shadows; and life is possible only within the Rings formed by giant luminous Ancient Trees. Beyond them lies icy cold and the Dark, and at the border there is the Shadow—the edge of the eternal sunset.

Here live strange Creatures, and grow unusual Herbs that have never seen light. Here swarm Worms dreaming of devouring all living things, while the few intelligent ones can only think how to put a slave collar on you.

To return to the earthly freehold, I’ll have to cross the Lands of Shadows alone. Or not quite—because the White Devil that has taken over my body is doing things that even the locals’ blood freezes at the sight of.
