In the early 1980s, Soviet counterintelligence receives information from its informant in the United States that in Moscow there is an agent recruited by American special services, known under the codename Faust. From the available data, it becomes clear that this agent is somehow connected to the Committee. A KGB major, Vladislav Purgin, is tasked with finding and eliminating the traitor. He carefully checks all potential suspects, but as the investigation progresses, the circle narrows. When the major learns who the agent is, he experiences a deep shock.
The enemy is smart and cold-blooded, with logical thinking, persistence, and precision in calculations. He is convinced he will win in this confrontation. But he doesn’t take into account that on his way stand Soviet counterintelligence officers—true masters of their craft—ready to risk everything and possessing unbending will and honor.
