Description
The author is not a big fan of dogs, but at her husband’s request—who owns and adores a black Labrador—she wrote a collection of short stories dedicated to Hannibal. The narration alternates between the voice of the mistress, who coolly regards her husband’s pet, and the voice of the dog himself, who has discovered in himself the ability to think and even judge human life. The hero of this story muses slowly about other dogs, about cats and rabbits, about how children grow up and what the meaning of life is. It’s unlikely the reader will take the side of the mistress, who is intolerant of the wonderful and charming animal. But I hope that at least a bit of sympathy will be shown to this, in essence, excellent woman!
