Igor Viktorovich Dolgopolov (1917–1991) was a talented poster artist, an endowed painter, a student of Alexander Deineka—he suddenly realized that the main work of his life was to write about artists.
His stories about masters are distinguished by the fact that he talks about things that are ordinary and, seemingly, universally known—aiming to bring a vast circle of readers into the wealth of artistic culture, including those who were little interested in art or, which is even worse, had formed biased and incorrect ideas about art and artists.
For his stories, Igor Dolgopolov always chose masters with a vivid and rich inner world and a perfect artistic form found to express that richness of spirit. Deep respect and love for artists permeate his stories, and they are even better the more often he manages to create a holistic and living image of the artist-creator—whose art elevates and ennobles the human race.
