Jonas Lønna serves as a local district police officer in the Norrmalm district of Stockholm and, in just a few weeks, is supposed to return to the post of commissioner of the criminal police. Meanwhile, in Oslo, in a residential building, they find a man’s corpse. There are clear traces of a struggle all over the room, so there’s no doubt about the violent nature of the death. The case takes a completely different turn when frozen remains of human bodies are discovered in the victim’s refrigerator. The worst part is that all the evidence points to Jurek Walther, one of the most dangerous, cruel, and merciless criminals Lønna has ever encountered. But how can that be possible, if the detective has no doubts that Walther is dead? Yet if that isn’t true, mortal danger threatens not only Lønna, but everyone he knows.
