Mountains of Fate

How hard it can be to know your fate… Especially to know the day of your death… Our hero arrives on a planet where the natives are slowly dying out, bringing with him a genetically modified lion that possesses intelligence. The aliens who visited this planet in ancient times decided to eradicate the humanoids in a very original way—by creating a machine that predicts the future. Once people learned what awaited them, they lost interest in life. The last one to fall under the infernal machine’s influence, before it broke, was our hero and his lion.

However, the machine lacked energy for the final impulse, and the hero remembers only fragmentary images from the predictions, and remembers that his genetically modified friend must die. The lion remembers everything—but it can’t tell anyone about it…
