The long-awaited cold has come. Winter changed the landscape of the city beyond recognition. Snow nobody clears lies in an even layer, undisturbed by people. Icy cold locks everything up, and now human activity does not warm the environment. Cannibals, animals, and the mad have all vanished at once, hiding in the few burrows that are suitable for surviving the cold—where they crowd together in the few spaces that remain accessible to them.
Inside the lairs for wintering, something has begun that happened by chance in summer. Now there are magnificent conditions for the packs of cannibals to become larger, stronger, and many times smarter. While the remaining people try to survive and take advantage of the time when resources can be obtained with little risk, another predator goes hunting—far more dangerous than the hidden mad, cannibals, and animals, because it has been hunting people since before the apocalypse.
