In the second half of the 19th century, sailors at sea and ocean began to encounter an unusual object—a luminous, spindle-shaped thing that surpassed a whale in both speed and size. Newspapers—and then scientists from all over the world—became interested in the “sea monster.”
But fate was kind only to Professor Aronnax, who, with his servant Conseil and harpooner Ned Land—by chance (or by the author, which is essentially the same)—ends up on board an extraordinary and unique submarine.
The captain and crew of the submarine turned out not to be monsters, and the heroes experienced plenty of dangerous and astonishing adventures, making a circumnavigation voyage of 20,000 leagues under the sea.
