Nikita Zimin—the protagonist of the novel—sets out to save his friend’s granddaughter by going into an unknown world, literally into who-knows-where, and ends up in the magical city of New-Kitezhrad. The hero himself has no magical abilities, but for some reason the locals take an interest in him.
