A sapper makes the same mistake twice in life: when choosing his profession and when he decides he’s too old for yet another war.

For thirty years I was in the army. Bridges, tripwires, mines—I always knew where to strike so the structure would collapse.

Now my body is in stasis on Earth, while my consciousness is in an Avatar on a planet in another world—one where dinosaurs never went extinct. Instead of a base, I was dumped on a junkyard. And I was there naked and without any weapons. To top it off, I was given an AI assistant who cracks jokes more often than it helps.

My son is missing from the base “Vostok-5,” and the corporation washed its hands of it. And I have to find him!
