Elsie is seven—and she is unlike other seven-year-old girls. Her grandmother is seventy-seven—and she is also not like other grandmothers. After all, few grandmothers would flirt with a policeman or escape from a hospital to climb into the monkeys’ enclosure. But the grandmother is Elsie’s best and only friend. Every night they go together to Prosone—an amazing country where time is measured in eternities and fairy tales, and no one is supposed to be “normal.”
One day, the grandmother leaves Prosone forever, leaving Elsie only letters. They must be delivered to the ones her grandmother wants to ask forgiveness for her mistakes. Elsie will learn that heroes and monsters live not only in fairy-tale kingdoms.
