The city of Kromelsк stands on the boundary of worlds—our world and the magical one. The edge separating them is very thin, and magic seeps into our world. For ages, sorcerers and unquiet lich necromancers have fought over the power that crosses this boundary. In the very thick of this struggle is a girl named Rada, who arrives in Kromelsк having inherited an apartment. Along with the apartment comes a mysterious portrait by an unknown artist, depicting a gypsy woman on whose shoulder a butterfly appears and disappears. Somehow, this portrait is connected to the strange guy Ber who is literally tailing Rada.
