A surprising offer puts the friendship between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi at risk. But they’ll have to pause on that problem, because both of these Jedi are heading for a new dangerous planet with a foggy future. A Jedi must be a fearless warrior, a keeper of justice, and a master of the paths of the Force. However, perhaps the most important duty of any Jedi is to pass their knowledge on to others. Master Yoda trained Dooku; Dooku trained Qui-Gon Jinn; and now Qui-Gon has his own padawan. Qui-Gon has faced all kinds of dangers many times, but nothing frightens him more than the thought that he might turn out to be a bad teacher. Obi-Wan has deep respect for his master, but he doesn’t always understand him. Why does Qui-Gon keep breaking rules that apply to all Jedi? Why does he get captivated by ancient prophecies instead of dealing with more urgent issues? And why didn’t Qui-Gon say that he was considering an invitation to the Jedi Council—knowing full well it would end their partnership? A simple answer terrifies Obi-Wan: Qui-Gon has turned out to be a bad student. When a Jedi named Rael Averross—another Dooku student—asks for their help to resolve a political dispute, Jinn and Kenobi head to the royal court of the planet Paigeel, convinced it will be their last mission together. But a seemingly simple assignment quickly becomes complicated by intrigues and visions of a bloody catastrophe that have nested in Qui-Gon’s head. While Qui-Gon’s faith in prophecies grows, Obi-Wan’s belief in his master is put to the test. And, as if on cue, at this very moment a new threat appears—one that teacher and student must face as tightly united as never before… or else part forever.
