Silvestre Yarrow is going through a streak of bad luck. After her mother’s death, she keeps the family business of space cargo transport afloat, but with the increasing attacks of the Nihilons, Silris is in danger of losing everything. She goes to the Republic’s capital, to Coruscant, for help—only to find herself entangled, instead of handling her own affairs, in a feud between two of the most influential families in the Galaxy.
Meanwhile, Jedi knight Vernestra Row has been summoned to Coruscant, but she has not the slightest idea who sent for her or why. When Vernestra and her padawan Imri, as well as Jedi master Comac Whitees and his padawan Rite, arrive in the capital, they are asked to help resolve a dispute between two families on the frontier. But why? The answer will lead Vernestra to a new understanding of her abilities, and Sile will plunge into the past… and discover the truth that will finally come out of the shadows.
