The known world of humankind is a continent divided into two parts by an impassable mountain range stretching from north to south. In the eastern part there is nothing unusual: fields, forests, mountains and seas; by day the sun shines, and at night the moon. But the western part—after an unknown cataclysm—has been transformed radically. The sky there is always hidden under a thick veil of gray clouds that do not let even a single ray of sunlight through to the earth, and all the inhabitants are forced to live in eternal half-light.
An army of the unclean—those that dwell on the Twilight side of the continent—overcomes the mountain barrier and finds itself on the Sunny side. The United Kingdom and its allies initially don’t take the danger seriously because everyone is too busy fighting over power and all sorts of intrigues, and also because they rely entirely on the all-powerful guild of wizards, which destroyed the enemy in the previous similar war that happened three thousand years ago. Only the main heroes understand the need for immediate action.
Around Illomar, the ruler of the border county that will be the first to face the blow, gather like-minded people who want to prevent the invasion before it becomes too late. They do everything within their power—sometimes sacrificing themselves—but it turns out to be not enough, and the unclean, like a tsunami, crashes down on the kingdom unprepared for war.
