The Phoenix and the Carpet

Edith Nesbit (1858–1924) — the famous British writer, prose author, and poet, creator of numerous novels; some of them have been adapted for film. We present, in audio format, one of her popular fantasy novellas.

This is a continuation of the story begun in the novella “Five Children and It.” This time, the boys and girls find a strange egg in a rug, from which a real phoenix hatches. And that’s where a whirlwind of adventures and travels begins, because the rug turns out to be magical and can take the children anywhere. The main thing is to make sure the rug understands where you want to go—otherwise, you might end up in such a place that it will be hard to get back out.
