One day, Lennart Söderström—an ex–rock musician—finds a package on a forest road. Inside is a newborn girl. She’s barely alive. He didn’t know what to do with his find until the girl started to cry. “Lennart had perfect pitch, and without any tuning fork he could tell that the girl was singing the note mi. The purest mi, from which the leaves trembled and birds lifted off the branches.” Then Lennart decides to raise the girl himself. Hide her in the basement, isolate her from any outside influences, turn her into an ideal instrument through which perfect music will come into the world. But Terez grew up as a girl with oddities—dangerous oddities.
