The cult science-fiction writer Robert Heinlein’s book “Starship Troopers” is widely known not only among fans of science fiction, thanks to the film by Paul Verhoeven, which was an incredible success. Yet, in my opinion, the film is nowhere near the book.
A terrible danger hangs over humanity. The death of Buenos Aires, attacked from space, shocked the people on Earth and forced them to intensify the war against Klendatu, a planet inhabited by baghs—giant intelligent crustacean-like beings whose psychology, level of organization, and economic system resemble termites. The very first landing on the hostile planet showed that bagh warriors are skillful soldiers, guided by some “brain center.” People have to urgently develop new methods and tactics of fighting to win the war.
