The historical thriller “The Beast,” awarded the “Planet” prize, takes place in Madrid in 1834, where a cholera epidemic takes lives every day. But fear grows not only because of the disease: in poor neighborhoods, dismembered bodies of recently missing people are discovered. The city is gripped by panic over the Beast—an unknown creature nobody has seen, but everyone is terribly afraid of.
When eleven-year-old Clara disappears, her sister Lucía, disregarding danger, goes searching. Her path leads her into a world of secret communities, dark rituals, superstitions, and political intrigues. In a desperate attempt to save Clara, former police officer Donoso, journalist Diego, and a monk—master of martial arts, Brother Braulio—join her.
However, it soon becomes clear that each of them has their own hidden motives.
