«Zubr» is a documentary biographical novel about the life of the outstanding biologist and geneticist Nikolay Vladimirovich Timofeev-Ressovsky.
Nikolay Vladimirovich Timofeev-Ressovsky was a Russian scientist, founder of the Russian scientific school in genetics, radiobiology, radioecology, evolution, and the doctrine of the biosphere.
Daniil Granin’s novella «Zubr», which appeared in «Novy Mir» (New World magazine, 1987, nos. 1–2), became an extraordinary event. The life of Timofeev-Ressovsky is also told in the film trilogy by E. S. Sakanyan—«Near Zubr», «Hunt for Zubr», «Heroes and Traitors». Conferences and symposia have been dedicated to Timofeev-Ressovsky.
