Golden Boy

In her new novel, Ekaterina Manoilo tells the story of a boy named Vitya, who has the gift of sensing the presence of gold underground and in water—he feels it as a warm vibration. He was born in the settlement of Shtormovoye near Magadan, where local residents engage in illegal extraction of precious metal. Vitya’s unusual talent doesn’t go unnoticed, and hostile people start hunting him, driven by greed. The boy’s parents decide on a risky journey to protect their son and find him a new, safer life. Away from his home places, the gold that once symbolized strength for Vitya becomes a magical guide in an unfamiliar and mysterious world.
