Olga Ipatova explores exotic religious and mythological motifs in the novel “The Golden Priestess of the Ashvins.” The author believes that turning to the roots of Indo-Aryan culture helps understand and appreciate the features of Belarusian cultural tradition and mentality, and build a special world model characteristic of the syncretic religious beliefs of Belarusians. The novel, which tells about paganism and Christianity of the 13th century, the creation of the upper reaches of the Neman in the Belarusian-Lithuanian state, and freely transfers the plot action from Novogrudok (Nowogródek) to Byzantium, Italy, Germany, and the Golden Horde.
