Description
A unique Indo-Chinese fantasy set in Medieval Asia—from the writer Freedom Rou Mei! The novel made the longlist of the "Technology of Miracles" contest on Author.Today.

Phoenixes don’t age, possess a gift of fire, and are close to nature—they have beautiful gardens, and in their palaces live tigers. Rumi is a phoenix-girl, but she was born without immunity to fire. Only the precious flower of the Temple of the Great Spirits, the Golden Orchid, keeps her alive. When a dark demon, a creature born of the Corruption, steals the orchid, Rumi will have to go with the tigers Igne and Vite and with the merchant Hanum to the capital, to the palace of the king of phoenixes.

The events take place in a fictional world inhabited by several peoples; the story touches on phoenixes and dragons. Phoenixes refer to Indian culture and the culture of Southeast Asia, dragons— to Chinese. All the heroes are supernatural beings: phoenixes, dragons, spirits, deities, demons, elves, and shapeshifters. Each race arrives into the world at its own time, and each is protected by a specific Spirit.
