The Golden Mountain

An American journalist named Clayton, eager to dispel boredom in Moscow, is offered a search for the brilliant Russian physicist Mikulin, who disappeared from Leningrad. According to Americans, Mikulin is working on something that could lead to a discovery on turning chemical elements into one another. What they fear most is that Soviet Russia will use it to flood the world with cheap gold, which would bring down capitalism...

A novella first published in the second issue of the journal “World Struggle” in 1929 was not issued until 1962, when it appeared as part of a collective anthology “The Captain of the Starship,” released by the Kaliningrad Book Publishing House.
