In 1859, in the Poltava Governorate, in a modest patriarchal Jewish family, a boy named Solomon was born—born to the Rabinovichs. Later it would be his fate to become a remarkable Jewish writer, known throughout the world as Sholem Aleichem.
With the exception of a few stories and publications, all of Sholem Aleichem’s works were written in Yiddish. The writer achieved worldwide fame thanks to his novella in letters, “The Troubles of Menahem-Mendl.” The novella is structured as correspondence between an unfortunate businessman and his wife Sheyna-Sheyndel. In each letter, he informs his wife about every one of his “grandiose” schemes, and in response receives a mountain of threats and curses.
In addition to the novella “The Troubles of Menahem-Mendl,” this audiobook also includes an audio version of the writer’s “Fanciful Tales.”
