Zinovy Yefimovich Gerdt was called “a genius of an episode”—among the dozens of roles he played on stage and in films, there were almost no leading ones. But even the smallest role of this actor was remembered by the audience: because it contained all his talent, all his uncompromising nature, and all his sense of self-respect. Many of Gerdt’s friends—among them the most famous figures of Russian culture—highly valued his wisdom, zest for life, and sparkling humor. Their recollections about the artist were included in the writer Matvey Geizer’s book—the first biography of Gerdt in the famous series “З.Ж.Л.” (ZHZL, “Life of Remarkable People”).
