Islam is one of the three world religions. Mahomet (Muhammad) is the prophet and founder of this faith. Islam is widespread across more than 120 countries and unites nearly a third of the world’s population. In this book, the American writer Washington Irving conveys, in a light and understandable manner, facts related to the life of Mahomet, as well as the legends and traditions that are often found in Eastern literature. At the same time, he tries to communicate the essence of Mahomet’s faith—how far it might interest an ordinary reader.
