Something terrible happens to the famous writer Flora Convery. One day, after a game of hide-and-seek, her small daughter Carrie disappears from her apartment in Brooklyn without a trace. The police have no leads and no versions. After months of anxious waiting and strange coincidences, a broken-hearted Flora begins to suspect that behind this whole story is someone who planned the crime down to the smallest details. Across the ocean, in Paris, a novelist, Romain Ozorowski, is worn out by life’s troubles and the flu. He freezes in front of a glowing blue screen, suddenly realizing that fiction has become more real for him than life itself. He is the only one who knows the answers to the most terrible questions—and Flora will soon have to meet him face to face.
