This book is a reflection on Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita,” in which the author under the pseudonym Z.U. Искпликатин suggests looking at this novel anew and trying to hear the voice of Bulgakov himself. The book does not scare people with divine punishment, does not promise heaven on earth, and does not provide simple answers to difficult questions. There are no beautiful phrases about “God’s Love” or “Love for God”—and the word “Love” isn’t used at all, because now people put an entirely different meaning into that word. In essence, that’s what this book is about.
“Proof that it is possible to swap banknotes, a child, friends. Moreover, even truth, meaning, life, and even death can turn out to be counterfeit. Where can you find the real ones—do they actually exist, or are they merely assumed in a world of illusions? Among people with a special opinion on these and similar issues, as it seems, there is M.A. Bulgakov. And with his faith in the invisible, he wants to share it with all those who are open and listening. His message to us is about the secret love of unfortunate readers and writers for darkness disguised as light, about lies in the skin of truth, and about the incomprehensible, irresistible craving for real life in the rare individuals who have understood themselves to be dead.” Prot. Alexey Potokin.
