The Strugatskys’ first and last play, which enjoyed great success in many theaters of our country. A Black Man in a wet hooded cloak comes to your apartment and hands you a summons: “All yids of the city of Peter are to appear at such-and-such time and place… with belongings...” How should one react? People react differently. And the play is watched (and listened to!) in one breath. The authors wrote it literally a year before the notorious State Emergency Committee coup. That was when millions of people found themselves facing the same choice: “How should one react?”
The second work, “Five Spoons of Elixir,” is also dramatic; the screenplay is devoted to an eternal theme in science fiction — immortality.
