Mount Fumo in the Italian Alps, transformed into an icy cathedral, became the stage for the decisive battle of the cold spring of 1916. But the echo of the fighting does not penetrate the cave where these two sit opposite each other. They smoke and remain silent. One is a prisoner who will be shot at dawn if he does not state his name and rank. The other is a military doctor who has only this night to persuade the captive to speak. The doctor does not yet know that the prisoner’s story will forever change his own fate. Because the lives of these people, who are supposed to be enemies, are in fact bound together.
